Deepak Chopra, Fireworks, Dragons and Lithuanian Psychiatrist!

Never a dull evening here you know!

Early evening: Went to watch Deepak Chopra, rated the 3rd best public speaker in the world, so worth going to see if you ever get the chance even if you don't necessarily agree with his philosophies. First half was very good - an interesting science lesson. Second half was more him trying to flog one of his books, so we sneaked out before the end! Very intelligent man, getting on a bit now though. His brother is Dean of Medicine at Harvard.

Got back in time to watch the 10pm fireworks from the roof. It is a 3 day carnival here called the Merce Festival in celebration of the patron saint of Barcelona. As part of the celebrations there are 3 days of fireworks at 10pm. China, Andalucia and Catalanya competing for the contract for the remaining firework displays for this year.

Then dashed back down to the street to watch the procession with lots of drummers and fire breathing dragons...

The drums went on forever... (not just that procession the whole weekend, they were drumming at 2am, 5am, all day... when does anyone sleep? Thank goodness for earplugs.) ...so we retreated to a newly opened and very cool first floor "lounge bar" to watch, and met an English couple, Susan and Mark.

Later a couple of Italian girls and an English GP joined us with his partner a Lithuanian Psychiatrist. (Not a normal evening! Mind you not totally unusual as Dan Matthews girlfriends have provided us with a variety of Eastern European evening companions in the past! ) Lovely lady, we turned out to be just 10 days apart in our birthdates. Still need a good way to keep track of all our varied collection of business cards and contacts - anyone that's sussed it let me know!
